Project overview
To protect hay, straw and farm machinery from weather exposure, this farm opted for a cost-effective shelter setup using two standard shipping containers with a container-mounted shelter (roof tarp system) stretched between them.

Setup details

  • Two 40ft containers (standard height)
    Placed parallel at a 6m distance to create a wide sheltered zone between them. Each container also offers enclosed storage for tools, fuel drums or spare parts.
  • Heavy-duty container shelter (roof system)
    A robust arched tarp roof was mounted across both containers, creating a covered drive-through area perfect for tractors, balers and hay bales. The shelter is UV-resistant and engineered for Australian conditions.
  • Multi-purpose use
    The covered area is used to store hay and straw under dry conditions while keeping farm vehicles protected and ready for use. The containers double as walls and weather barriers.
  • Fast, council-free installation
    As a modular setup with no permanent footings, the shelter was installed quickly without council approvals, offering flexibility for future farm planning.

Result

This practical combination of two containers and a container roof system created a low-maintenance, high-volume shelter that is scalable, movable, and perfectly suited for Australian farming needs offering year-round protection for valuable feed and equipment.
