But as a general rule, local container delivery usually ranges from a few hundred to a thousand dollars, depending on access and distance. For longer routes between major cities, such as Brisbane to Sydney/Melbourne, expect to pay in the low thousands per container, including pickup and unloading.

By sea:
- Pros: Cheap, reliable, the only real option for overseas transport.
- Cons: Slow, must be paired with land transport.
By rail:
- Pros: The most cost-effective and efficient option for overland transport.

Shipping containers are usually unloaded with a tilt tray (rear unload) or side loader (parallel unload) truck. These trucks come complete with the equipment they need to load and unload containers, so they can drive onto your property or site and place your container wherever you need it – provided there’s the necessary clearance. If you have a crane or forklift capable of unloading and moving the container, you may also be able to place it in a tighter, more precise position.
